Description

Kenya Kegwa

Kegwa Station is part of the Ngiriambo Co-operative Society, established in 1997. Today, Ngiriambu  has about four and a half thousand registered members who are continuously supported, including coffee processing at two stations: Kiri and Kegwa. The latter was established in 1979 and now serves about two thousand small farmers in Kirinyaga District on the slopes of Mount Kenya. The station borders the forest, so the microclimate is very cool throughout the year.

Before the process of washed processing, all coffee, carefully selected by hand, is cleaned of pulp and undergoes 24 hours of dry fermentation. After washing, it is dried on the patio with constant stirring until the moisture in the grain reaches 13%. The coffee is then moved to elevated containers for conditioning. They are made of wire mesh and provide 360-degree air circulation. The sorghum remains here and is regularly turned over awaiting delivery to the dry processing station. At the last stage, the coffee is sent to remove all the top layers. After that, it is packed in 60 kg jute bags with GrainPro protection and sent for export.
